Withdrawal Protection Gets an Allowance: Your Everyday Transfers Without the Wait

Your chosen delay still stands between your crypto wealth and anyone pressuring you. Now, everyday amounts no longer have to wait.
SwissBorg's Withdrawal Protection now includes an optional allowance: an amount you can withdraw or Smart Send instantly each period, while larger crypto withdrawals still wait your chosen delay.
Withdrawal Protection puts a waiting period, a delay that you choose, on crypto assets leaving your SwissBorg account. That delay gives you time to cancel if someone is forcing or tricking you into sending them, whether that is a scammer, someone who has got into your account or a physical threat, sometimes called a wrench attack.
Our community told us about the trade-off. The delay is valuable, but waiting days for every small withdrawal felt impractical, so some chose to leave it off.

This upgrade adds an allowance. Everyday amounts go out straight away. The bulk of your crypto wealth stays behind your delay.
SwissBorg's Withdrawal Protection is built to hold firm when it matters most. You can choose a delay of up to 180 days that no one can skip, not even SwissBorg Support.
Your settings are easy to tighten and slow to loosen, so forcing a change gains an attacker nothing. And now, an allowance that gives you everyday flexibility while the bulk of your crypto wealth stays behind your delay.
We believe it is the most comprehensive withdrawal protection of any crypto platform.
Key Facts at a Glance
- Withdrawal Protection lets you choose a delay of 1 to 180 days for crypto leaving your SwissBorg account.
- The new allowance is optional and lets everyday amounts up to your chosen allowance and timeframe go out instantly.
- Allowance periods are rolling: 24 hours, 7 days or 30 days.
- Crypto withdrawals and Smart Sends share one allowance.
- A transfer above what is left of your allowance waits in full.
- Making your settings stronger applies instantly. Making them weaker waits your delay.
- Withdrawal Protection is managed in the SwissBorg mobile app.
What Is the Withdrawal Protection Allowance?

The Withdrawal Protection allowance is an amount you can withdraw or Smart Send right away, within a rolling 24 hours, 7 days or 30 days. Stay under it and transfers go out right away. Go over it, and they wait your delay.
Think of it like a card spending limit: it is the total you can send out each period without waiting.
The allowance is optional. Leave it at 0 and every withdrawal waits for your pre-chosen delay, exactly as before.
How Does the Allowance Work?

Setting up your Withdrawal Protection allowance takes three choices:
- Currency: pick the fiat currency for your allowance, for example CHF. It stays fixed, even if you change the app's display currency, so your limit cannot shift.
- Period: 24 hours, 7 days or 30 days. The period is rolling, not a calendar reset. Each transfer stops counting 24 hours, 7 days or 30 days after you requested it.
- Amount: there is no maximum. The app confirms your choice, for example "CHF 500 every 24 hours".
Crypto withdrawals and Smart Sends share one allowance. Each transfer is valued in your allowance currency at the moment you request it. Only activity after you turn on Withdrawal Protection counts, so earlier withdrawals do not use up your allowance.
You’ll Know Before You Send

The Withdrawal Protection screen shows how much you have used, for example "Used in the last 24 hours: CHF 380 of CHF 500, CHF 120 left".
Before you confirm a withdrawal or Smart Send, the preview tells you what will happen: "Sent right away" if it is within your allowance, or when it will go out if it has to wait your delay.
What Happens If a Withdrawal Is Above My Allowance?
With Withdrawal Protection, a transfer above what is left of your allowance waits in full. It is not split. With CHF 120 left, a CHF 800 withdrawal waits your whole delay. It is not sent as CHF 120 now and CHF 680 later.
Delayed transfers also count towards your allowance from the moment you request them. Say your allowance is CHF 1,000 every 7 days and you request a CHF 5,000 withdrawal. It waits your delay, and it uses up your 7-day allowance straight away, so a CHF 50 withdrawal the next day waits too. Instant transfers come back once the larger transfer drops out of the rolling window.
Why it works this way: your allowance caps everything leaving your account in the period. It is not an extra instant amount on top. If you were under duress, it would make no sense to let someone take a large amount through the delay and then keep draining your account with a string of small instant transfers.
You Can Still Cancel

While a withdrawal waits, you stay in control. You can cancel it at any time during the delay. Cancelling cannot be undone.
Why Can I Tighten Settings Instantly but Not Loosen Them?

One rule sits behind every Withdrawal Protection setting. You can make Withdrawal Protection stronger instantly. Making it weaker takes your full delay. So an attacker gains nothing by forcing you to change your settings.
Applied immediately:
- Increase your delay.
- Lower or remove your allowance.

Applied after your current delay:
- Raise your allowance ("Allowance Increase Pending").
- Add an allowance when you had none ("Allowance Pending").
- Shorten your delay ("Shorter Delay Pending").
- Turn Withdrawal Protection off ("Turning Off").

Each pending change shows a banner with a countdown and a button to cancel it, such as "Cancel Increase" or "Keep It On". Cancelling a pending change is instant, because it makes your settings stronger.

Two more details are worth knowing:
- Withdrawals already waiting keep the delay they started with. If you request a withdrawal with a 7-day delay, then change your delay to 14 days, that withdrawal still goes out after 7 days.
- Lowering your allowance below what you have already used means further withdrawals wait your delay until earlier transfers drop out of the window.
One Change at a Time

You cannot save a shorter delay and a higher allowance together. The app shows "One Change at a Time: Save a shorter delay or a higher allowance on its own."
Each loosening change runs its own countdown, so no one can bundle several of them into a single save.
How Much Should I Set as My Allowance?
Set your Withdrawal Protection allowance to an amount you would be comfortable seeing leave your account instantly or you reasonably expect to need to withdraw over the period.
A smaller allowance means more protection, and you can lower it at any time with immediate effect.
What Stays the Same
- Your delay can be set from 1 to 180 days.
- No one can skip the delay, not even SwissBorg Support.
- You can cancel a pending withdrawal at any time during the wait.
- Exchanges inside the app are not affected. Only crypto assets leaving SwissBorg are delayed.
- Smart Send, a transfer from one SwissBorg user to another, is held by the delay just like a crypto withdrawal.
Looking for a Safe Home for Your Crypto?
When you choose where to keep your crypto, it is worth asking what happens if something goes wrong: a phished password, a stolen phone or someone pressuring you in person.
Strong passwords and two-factor authentication help keep people out. Withdrawal Protection covers the threats that are shifting from the digital world to the physical one.
Even someone inside your account cannot move more than your allowance without waiting for your delay, and that delay gives you time to cancel.
With the allowance, you no longer have to choose between that protection and everyday convenience. Keep your delay on, set an allowance that covers your usual transfers, and the bulk of your crypto wealth stays protected.
How Do I Set Up the Allowance?

- Update the SwissBorg mobile app to the latest version.
- Go to Profile, then Security, then Withdrawal Protection.
- Choose your allowance currency, period and amount.
- Tap Save and confirm.
If Withdrawal Protection is already on, adding an allowance waits for your current delay before it starts. Withdrawal Protection is managed in the SwissBorg mobile app.
